Both teams were strong in the circle on Friday, but Northwest was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 1-0 victory over Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets. Alexyn DuBois started the game for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets and recorded 18 outs.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets lost despite out-hitting Northwest six to five. Ava Smith led Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets with two hits.
Northwest were the first to get on the board in the third when A Golightly singled, scoring one run.
L Bivens earned the win for Northwest. The hurler allowed six hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking four. DuBois took the loss for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets. The starting pitcher went six innings, giving up one run (zero earned) on five hits, striking out eight and walking none.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets stole four bases in the game.
Golightly went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Bivens led Northwest with two hits in three at bats. Golightly stole two bases.

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets Drop Game To Northwest After Late Score

Friday's game against Northwest was a heartbreaker for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets, as they lost the lead late in an 8-7 defeat. Northwest were down 7-6 in the bottom of the fourth inning when A Good homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets fell despite leading 7-1 in the second.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets got on the board in the top of the first inning after Northwest dropped a third strike, Amanda Ley grounded into a fielder's choice, Tori King grounded out, and Ryley Manning doubled to center field, each scoring one run.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets scored three runs in the top of the second on a home run to left field by Halle Swihart.
Northwest scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to center field by Good.
Northwest flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 8-7. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by N Barron that drove in two.

Swihart provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Brooklyn Biela paced Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Holly Zantop and Ley each stole multiple bases for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets. Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets stole seven bases in the game.
H Gardner and Good each collected two hits for Northwest. Good led Northwest with four runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Northwest turned one double play in the game.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets play at home on Monday against East Jackson in their next game.
