Record Setting Day from Sayles Leads to Baseball Sweep of Addison

Braylon Sayles hit four home runs and drove in seven as the Hanover-Horton Comet Baseball Team defeated Addison in game one of a twin bill 15-4 on Thursday. Sayles homered in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings consecutively to tie the MHSAA record for most home runs in a single game.Sayles' two-run shot in the first got the Comets on the board, then Austin Leonard singled home the third run in the second inning.The Comets added two more runs in the third inning with a Sayles solo homer and a Cameron Sherwood double, which drove in the fifth run of the game.Hanover-Horton added to their lead in the fourth inning when Sayles hit his third home run of the game and Sherwood followed that up with a home run of his own.The Comets then scored six more runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. Comet Softball Continues Winning Ways with Sweep of Addison

Ava Smith hit two home runs and drove in four as Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets defeated Addison Varsity Panthers 21-0 on Thursday. Smith homered in the first and third innings. Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets won thanks in part to 14 runs in the first inning.  Smith hit a solo inside the park home run, Amanda Ley tripled, scoring one run, Ryley Manning singled, scoring one run, McKinzie Fox singled, scoring two runs, Smith singled, scoring two runs, Brooklyn Biela singled, scoring one run, Halle Swihart singled, scoring one run, Ley doubled, scoring one run, Manning singled, scoring two runs, and Fox tripled, scoring two runs. Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets scored six runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. Both Leslie and Hanover-Horton were strong on the mound in game one on Monday, but the Comets defeated the Blackhawks 2-0. Luke Soper started the game for Hanover-Horton and recorded all 21 outs.Soper struck out 13 batters on the day. The starter only gave up one hit while walking none.A single by Brady Pond on an 0-2 count put H-H on the board in the top of the second.Pond, the number eight hitter, let the Comets with two hits in three at bats. Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets won big over Leslie BlackHawks 13-5 on Monday. Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run, Alexyn DuBois doubled, scoring one run, and Halle Swihart homered to left field, scoring two runs. A single by Holly Zantop extended the Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets lead to 5-1 in the top of the third inning. Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets scored five runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning. Girls Middle School Track Does Well in First Meet!

The girls' middle school track opener featured some impressive performances. Here are a few highlights: - Bella Crabtree had a remarkable throw of 30'4" and secured 1st place. - Jordyn Tiffany won the high jump with a leap of 4'0". - Ellie Swihart excelled in the 2-mile and 800-meter races and also contributed to the 1st place finish of the 4x800 relay team, which included Collins Deglee, Lauren Bulgrien, Emery Day, and Ellie herself. - Taylor Dick achieved a fantastic jump in the long jump event, earning a 1st place finish. - Kennadee Britton also performed well in the 400-meter race, finishing in 3rd place. - The team of Paisley Birch, Harper Killoran, Aubrey Jones, and Madalyn Adams finished 2nd in the 4x100 relay. The Lady Comets showcased their talent and speed. Great job, everyone! You can catch the girls at their next meet on Monday, April 21st, in Homer. The field events will begin at 4:30 PM.

Boys Middle School Track Team Shows Out in First Meet!

Last night the Hanover-Horton Middle School Boys Track & Field team competed against Jonesville and Vandercook Lake in our first meet of the season. The boys beat Vandercook 125 to 7 but lost to Jonesville 84.5 to 52.5. The meet began with field events where Swihart and Buckingham took 1st and 3rd in the polevault, Jurasek took 2nd in long jump, Herendeen, Hamisfar, and Jackson tied for 2nd in high jump, and Henry took 2nd in shot put. The running events started with the 4x800 relay team of Marshall, Bolen, Toteff, and Herendeen taking 1st, Peogel took 2nd in the 55m Hurdles, and Johnson took 1st in the 100m. Herendeen and Jakubas went 1st and 3rd in the 1600m, Hamisfar was 1st in the 70m, and Britton took 3rd in the 400m. Jakubas finished 2nd in the 800m, Nadell was 3rd in the 200m Hurdles, Johnson and Swihart took 2nd and 3rd in the 200m, and Marshall took 1st in the 3200m. Overall it was a great meet and the team worked hard. Alexyn DuBois was dominant in the circle, as the starter rang up 12 strikeouts in Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets's 13-2 victory over Homer Trojans Varsity on Friday. In The Cascades Crossover event hosted by Spring Arbor University your Comets of Hanover Horton (13-8) matched up with the Cardinals of Michigan Center (16-5) for the 3rd place game.  The Comets started hot scorching the nets from the college 3 point line with 4 3’s in the first quarter.  Mixing that with some stifling defense and rebounding they were able to jump ahead 22-9 after 1.  From ther the Comets really dominated every quarter leading by as much as 30 points  in the 3rd quarter.  The Comets Secured the 3rd Place game by a final of 66-44 in one of the best performances of the year.  The Comets were led by Cascades Conference Player of the year Luke Soper with 28 points 10 rebounds 7 assists and 5 steals, John Wallbaum and Braylon Sayles each chipped in another 10 points.  The Comets (14-8) have a week off before the Host Vandercook Lake in first round of district play.

The Comets traveled to Columbia Central and continued their Roller coaster type of year.  The Comets Jumped ahead 12-4 early, but after a timeout and adjustment the Golden eagles went on a 28-0 run and the Comets just couldn’t come back from it.  The Golden Eagles were playing with something to prove after losing the first matchup and the Comets just looked deflated.  The Comets lost by final of 46-66.  They were led by Luke Soper with 13 points 8 rebounds, and JJ Russ adding 9 points.

On Friday the Hanover Horton Comets hosted Rival Jonesville Comets in a snowfest cascades matchup.  Jonesville started HOT from the Floor and Jumping ahead early.  After leading the whole game the Comets were finally able to take the lead with 3 min to go on a Brodey Bially offensive putback.  After Joneville tied the game at 50 a piece with a little over a minute to go H-H was able to knock down some free throws and have two huge defensive stops to win 52-50 securing them at least a 2nd place finish in the Cascades west.  The Comets were led by Luke Soper with 13 points and 12 rebounds, JJ Russ added 11 points and Braylon Sayles added 8.

The Comets and Panthers met at Little Caesars arena Wednesday afternoon in a cascades conference matchup.  The Comets seemed to leave all their talent back home on Moscow rd in the first half, as they started unfocused and sluggish.  The Panther Defense played a huge factor in frustrating the Comets as they ended the half trailing by 1 point. After a few adjustment and some soul searching at the half the Comets woke up and Blew Addison away in the second half.  Ending with a final score of 68-49. Luke Soper led the way with 18 points 8 rebounds, Jj Russ ended up with 14 points and John Wallbaum tallied 9.

After coming off one of the best wins of the season the Comets traveled to Michigan Center in a huge cascades conference battle.  Michigan center jumped ahead early and the Comets could not find a way to slow them down.  Behind Hot shooting and execution the Cardinals handed the Comets their worst loss of the year with a final 53-73.  The Comets were led by Luke Soper with 12 points 10 rebounds, JJ Russ with 11 points and John Wallbaum with 10.  The Comets look to bounce back Wednesday when they play Addison.

The Comets hosted #3 ranked Lenawee Christian in a Non conference battle on Saturday afternoon.   Lenawee started hot jumping out to a 10-3 lead early.  The Comets kept battling and were able to stay in it defensively.  After trailing by about 15 in the 3rd quarter the Comets cut it to a 6 point deficit heading into the 4th.  The Comets started the 4th hot and managed to take the lead and turn the momentum around.  With 44 seconds to go the comets had the ball in a 54-54 tied ball game.   They were able to have a patient possession in order to take the last shot of the game, Luke soper came off a couple ball screens, spun toward the middle and after getting his pass deflected back at him he tossed it up with no time remaining and winning the game 56-54.  Not only did Luke Soper have the game winner but he was one point shy of the single game scoring record ending with 45 points and 12 rebounds.

Your Hanover-Horton JV Comets continued their roll, fighting to a 59-31 victory over Jonesville. The guard play was a highlight for the home team as Brady Pond and Brayden Keeler combined for 39 points tagging 7 assists along the way. Jake Weir chimed in with 10 boards giving the comets plenty of second chances. Comets battle for the conference this coming Tuesday at Columbia Central.

This past Saturday, 6 boys on the wrestling team traveled to Dansville for individual districts.  5 of them have qualified for individual regionals.  Freshman Austyn Hocter brought home a District title.  Junior AJ Fielder took 2nd, freshman AJ Lusby was 3rd.  Junior Reed Matthews and Senior Gavin Berkeypile also advance to regionals with 4th place finishes.  On Sunday, our 3 girl wrestlers traveled to Dundee for the first ever girls districts.  Sophomore Aleah Gillett took 4th place finish and Senior Drew Swihart took 2nd.  Both have advanced to regionals, also.  The boys will compete on Saturday, at Leslie, and the girls will compete at Chelsea on Sunday.  Top four from each region, from each weight class will advance to Ford Field for Individual States.

Last night the Comet wrestling team traveled to Jonesville for Team Districts.  We were only able to send 7, out of 14 weight classes to the meet.  Of those 7, 5 gave us wins, to give us 28 points.  Jonesville was able to take almost all the rest of the voids and came out with 45 points.  Gavin Berkeypile won by technicall fall.  AJ Fielder, Levi Bradley, Wyatt Ashworth, and Austyn Hocter all won by pins.  Great job by all 7 wrestlers who were able to wrestle.  This weekend the boys start their individual post season at Dansville on Saturday for individual districts.  Wrestling starts at 9:30.  The girls travel to Dundee for their individual district on Sunday.  They start wrestling at 10:30.  Come out and cheer on your tough Comet wrestling team.

The Comets put together one of their most complete games offensively and defensively leading to 80-12 victory over the Panthers. Brayden Keeler stayed warm all tonight ringing in 20 points. The bench gave the starters a rest and never looked back. Brody Burt along Eli and Levi Serafin, all dropping 7+ points in the effort.

On Monday the comets took on the cardinals from Michigan Center. The JV team continued their hot roll storming in and getting a 73-42 victory. Jake weir caught fire racking up 24 points with Brady Pond and Brayden Keeler following with 20 and 15 respectively. Comets look to keep charging tomorrow vs the Panthers of Addison.

Boys Results: The Team of Gabe OConnor, Grant Cure, Noah Dekamp,Dylan Bailey, Elias Wykoff and James Bradley, Lost to Vandercook Lake 5-25 .  Splitting the  Bakers 149-148 and 156-172.  The Comets were down 4-6 going into regular games and even though they had a PR Series from Elias Wykoff of 363 they could not gain any ground from the Jayhawks.   Led by Elias Wykoff 201 game and PR series of 363, Noah Dekamp 164-168, Grant Cure 147 and Dylan Bailey 140,  Record 6-7    Girs Bowling Results:  The team of Abby Barba, Charlie Worden, Brooke Hadley, Liz Curry and Ari Uhl defeated the Lady Jays 28.5 – 1.5 in dominating fashion.    Led by Abby Barba 193-164 and a PR game and series from Liz Curry 159-160-319, Brooke Hadley 163 and Ari Uhl 148 game.   Record 6-5   Jv Bowling Results: The Jv Squad of Abbot Smiloski, Cam Smith, Makena Wagar and Noah
