Varsity Girls Continue Excellent Play with Win Over Jonesville

Hanover Horton 49, Jonesville 37: Molly Soper led the Comets with 20 points, and Maggie Soper added 17 points. HH is now 15-3 overall and has won 10 of their last 12 games. A huge rematch with Columbia Central next Tuesday at home (2/17), the Cascades-West champion will be decided.  The JV also earned an exciting victory against Jonesville! --Coach Lusk

HS Wrestlers Win District Title in Dramatic Fashion!

Last night the wrestling team hosted the MHSAA Team Districts with Addison, Concord, and Vandercook Lake.  Your Comets wrestled Vandy first in the semifinals and won in dominating fashion, 72-0.  Wins came from AJ Lusby, Nathan Willett, Garrett Frost, Bristen Cekander, AJ Fielder, Maelyn Frost, Levi Bradley, Britain Kabil, Travis Kruger, Nick Thomas, Austyn Hocter and Reed Matthews.  Addison beat Concord 60-6 in their semifinal.  In the District Finals, the Comets beat Addison 35-29.  Winning their matches were AJ Lusby, AJ Fielder, Levi Bradley, Travis Kruger, Nick Thomas, Austyn Hocter and Reed Matthews.  Your Comet wrestlers move onto the Regional next Wednesday.  Opponents and location are not known yet.  This weekend starts the individual postseason.  Saturday, the boys travel to Lumen Christi, and the girls head to Clinton on Sunday for individual districts.  Come out and cheer on your Comets!--Coach Fielder

MS Girls Sweep Addison

Our 7th grade team beat Addison 42-24 on Wednesday. - Annie Yeo led with 16 points- Gabbie DelosSantos had 6 points- Harlow Elbert with 6 points and 9 rebounds- Parker Brown with 5 points - Mackenzie Powell with 4 points- Brooklyn Cole with 8 rebounds Our 8th grade team played some nice team basketball in a 41-12 win over Addison with 24 steals and 22 rebounds.  - Miley Cole had great passing with 5 assists and 10 points. - Maddox Woolworth was dominant on defense with TEN steals, 4 rebounds and 7 points.- Rylie Duncan pulled down 10 rebounds and had 8 points and 7 steals.- Jusselle Smilowski had 8 points and 3 steals along with an assist.  The Comets host East Jackson in their final home game of the season on Wednesday, February 18. -Coach Hull and Coach Gilbert

On Tuesday, the middle school wrestlers faced off with Vandercook Lake and Grass Lake.  Wins on the night belonged to Koda Hobart, Mikayla Burt, Easton Pond, Lauren Shannon and Zarek Lusby.  The team wrestles at Grass Lake on Thursday in their final meet of the season. -Coach McMahan

Middle School Girls Split with Napoleon

Our 7th grade tallied another win with a victory over Napoleon at home. The Comets’ defense was stifling all game, creating 23 turnovers on the night.  The defense was led by Annie Yeo, who forced 8 steals and created chaos for the Pirates. Parker Brown contributed 5 steals and Gabbie DelosSantos added 4 steals.  Offensively the Comets had contributions from several players: Annie Yeo led the way with 13 points, Gabbie DelosSantos with 11, Makenzie Powell had 9 and Parker Brown chipped in 6! Our 8th grade battled until the final buzzer but came up short against a tough Napoleon team in their first loss of the season.  After an uncharacteristically slow first half, the Comets turned up the intensity in the third quarter and carried momentum into the fourth. In a battle of four top 5 Division 4 teams at Mason this past weekend, our Hanover-Horton Comp. Cheer Team came out in first place with a massive third round score!  The tournament featured Pewamo-Westphalia, Hudson and Sanford-Meridian--ALL highly ranked opponents. Varsity Wrestlers Have Strong Showing at Conference Meet

Friday night, the Cascades Conference had their wrestling championship tournament.  As a team, Hanover-Horton finished 6th out of the 12 teams.  Individually, Hanover-Horton had 4 placers out of the 14 weight classes.  Senior captain Reed Matthews was the runner-up at heavyweight.  Sophomores AJ Lusby at 120 lbs., Austyn Hocter at 215 lbs. and senior captain AJ Fielder at 132 lbs. were all conference champions!  AJ Fielder made Hanover-Horton history, by being Hanover's first 4-time conference champion. The team starts the post season on Wednesday, with districts at home against Vandercook Lake.  The winning team will compete against the winner of Addison and Concord that same night.  Wrestling starts at 6:00pm at Hanover-Horton. -Coach Fielder

Our 7th grade Lady Comets worked together for a 40-5 win against Manchester on Wednesday.  - Gabbie DelosSantos led the team with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.- Alexa Belknap added 7 points, 3 steals- Harlow Elbert had 5 points, 4 rebounds- Makenzie Powell had 4 points, 2 steals Our 8th grade Comets earned a 36-2 win over Manchester. The girls combined for a total of 31 rebounds, 4 blocks and 16 steals in a great team win. • Miley Cole had 14 points, 2 steals and 2 rebounds• Rylie Duncan had 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks• Erin Dunning had 5 points, 8 rebounds and 1 steal• Maddox Woolworth had 5 steals and 2 points The Comets will host Napoleon at home on Monday, February 9. It was a hard fought battle last night for our girls at Michigan Center.  The Lady Comets fell to the Cardinals 58-52.  Molly Soper led in scoring with 18 points, added 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Maggie Soper had 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.  Halee Krage added 6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 block. Last night the Comet wrestling team hosted Manchester and Columbia Central.  They wrestled hard, but came up short, losing to Manchester 36-40 and Columbia Central 16-64.  Sophomores AJ Lusby and Austyn Hocter lead the way, going 2-0 on the night. Junior Rory Birch was 1-0.  Freshman Nathan Willett, Junior Levi Bradley, and Seniors AJ Fielder and Reed Matthews went 1-1.  Freshmen Maelyn Frost, Britain Kabil, Travis Kruger, Nick Thomas and Junior Garrett Frost all wrestled tough last night.  Thank you to everyone who came out.  Conference Championships this Friday at Leslie.  Wrestling starts at 4pm. --Coach Fielder
