JV Boys Win Tight Game vs Jonesville, Stay Undefeated

Hanover-Horton Junior Varsity Comets defeated Jonesville, 42-36, on Thursday as Rudy Lowry scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.Hanover-Horton Junior Varsity Comets trailed by as many as 12 points before rallying.Trailing 26-14, Hanover-Horton Junior Varsity Comets went on a 14-point run to take the lead. Hanover-Horton Junior Varsity Comets captured the win despite trailing 26-20 at halftime.Hanover-Horton Junior Varsity Comets controlled the paint, grabbing 30 rebounds. Lowry led the team with 10 rebounds. Everett Marshall hit two threes for Hanover-Horton. Comets passed the ball well with 12 assists on 18 made baskets. Lowry led the team with five assists. Additional scorers for Hanover-Horton Junior Varsity Comets included Marshall (10 points), Bryce Griffis (9 points), and Levi Serafin (7 points). -Coach Sauber

Comet Wrestling Team Goes 2-0 at Grass Lake Quad

Last night the Comets, Warriors, Jayhawks and Cardinals won the battle with the snow outside and competed inside.  Hanover-Horton wrestled against Vandercook Lake and Grass Lake, beating both.  The Comets defeated Vandercook 71-0.  Senior AJ Fielder won his 150th varsity match with a TF.  The Comets then took on Grass Lake and won 40-26.  Going 2-0 on the day was Garrett Frost, AJ Fielder, Levi Bradley, Slade Feller, Ronnie Jones, Austyn Hocter, and Reed Matthews.  Bristen Cekander and Matt Buckingham both went 1-0.  AJ Lusby, Nathan Willett, and Maelyn Frost went 1-1 on the day.  The Lady Comets travel to Wylie E. Groves High School for the Lady Falcon invitational on Friday.  The boys head to Quincy for the Shawn Cockrell Invitational on Saturday. -Coach Fielder

 7th Grade Recap:Our 7th grade girls basketball team took on Columbia Central on Wednesday at home. After being down at the half, the girls came out fighting in the third quarter to pull within one point, but a tough fourth quarter ended the game 27-41. Parker Brown led with 10 points, 6 rebounds and five steals. Lady Comets win vs. East Jackson 66-10.  Halee Krage led the Comets with 20 points. Maggie and Molly Soper both recorded double doubles--Maggie with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Molly with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The middle school wrestling team began their season on Tuesday in a Cascades Conference Quad at Addison.  The young Comet squad had a lot of success, and are looking to build off of their first meet.  Comet wins were had by:2 wins - Atlas Jakubas, Zarek Lusby, Easton Pond and Karson Henry1 win - Koda Hobart, Chad Kemler and Parker HamisfarThe Comets will wrestle again on Friday, January 16 at the Marshall Invite.-Coach McMahan

7th & 8th Grade Girls Basketball Open the Season

7th Grade Recap:  The 7th Grade girls basketball team opened their season against Jonesville on Monday, but came up short is losing 45-12.  Parker Brown led the team with 8 points. Harlow Elbert had 5 rebounds, and Alexa Belknap contributed 2 steals.   8Th Grade Recap:  Our 8th grade Comets knocked the dust off for their season-opener on Monday night. The girls FOUGHT for a 43-25 win over Jonesville.  After being down three points at the half, our Comets outscored Jonesville 11-9 in the third and 21-3 in the fourth quarter. A big thank you to our student section for their support! Wrestlers Show Well at Olivet

On Saturday, bot the girls and boys wrestling teams traveled to Olivet for individual tournaments.  For the girls, Freshman Maelyn Frost finished 6th place going 2-3.  Junior Aleah Gillett lost a hard fought match in the last round before placements going 2-2.  On the boys side, we finished 7th out of 18 teams.  Senior AJ Fielder lead the way going 4-0, all by pins, and winning the championship.  Sophomore Austyn Hocter came home a runner up and went 2-1 with his 2 wins coming from pins.  Senior Reed Matthews avenged an earlier loss to take 3rd place.  He went 5-1.  Freshman Ronnie Jones brought home a 5th place finish going 3-2.  Junior Levi Bradley came home in 6th and went 3-3.  Freshmen Travis Kruger, Britain Kabil and Nick Thomas each went 2-2 on the day. The team travels to Grass Lake on Wednesday to take on the Warriors and Vandercook Lake.  Wrestling starts at 5:30pm.  Come out and cheer on you Comets! -Coach

Comet Boys Basketball Defeat Addison

The Comets travelled to Addison to battle the Panthers in a Cascades Conference road test. The Comets started hot, going up 9-0, were able to fend off some hot shooting from Addision and come away with a 85-59 win. The Comets were led by Brodey Bially with 30 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists.  Jake Weir added 21 points and 4rebounds, and Tyler Harris added 8 points and 5 rebounds. The Comets Improve to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.-Coach Birch
