Varsity Softball Takes a Pair from Homer

Alexyn DuBois was dominant in the circle, as the starter rang up 12 strikeouts in Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets's 13-2 victory over Homer Trojans Varsity on Friday. DuBois allowed three hits and two runs over six innings while walking one.

 

Holly Zantop collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Zantop doubled in the fifth inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

 

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two walks. Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets first got on the board when Amanda Ley drew a walk, scoring one run.

 

Homer Trojans Varsity tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a ground out by Lani Miller, and a passed ball.

 

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets took the lead in the top of the second. An error scored one run, to give Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets the lead, 3-2.

 

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Tori King walked, and Ava Smith singled to center field, each scoring one run.

 

Payten Minix took the loss for Homer Trojans Varsity. The starting pitcher went three and one-third innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on five hits, striking out five and walking 10.

 

DuBois collected two hits for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets in three at bats. Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets had patience at the plate, amassing 15 walks for the game. Halle Swihart and Ryley Manning led the team with three free passes each. Swihart stole two bases. Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets stole six bases in the game.

 

Miller led Homer Trojans Varsity with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Julie Masternak, Miller, and Brooklen Minix each collected one hit for Homer Trojans Varsity.

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets Defeat Homer Trojans Varsity On Multiple Hit Performance By Ava Smith

Ava Smith collected four hits in four at bats, as Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets defeated Homer Trojans Varsity 13-3 on Friday. Smith tripled in the first inning, doubled in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, and doubled in the second inning.

 

Alexyn DuBois struck out 10 batters on the day. The hurler also gave up four hits and three runs over five innings while walking none.

 

Homer Trojans Varsity got on the board in the top of the first inning after Lani Miller hit a sacrifice fly, and Riley Butler stole home, each scoring one run.

 

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Bryn Biela singled, Holly Zantop was struck by a pitch, and Tori King walked, each scoring one run.

 

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets added one run in the second after Halle Swihart grounded into a fielder's choice.

 

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Brooklyn Biela singled down the left field line, Smith doubled to center field, and DuBois doubled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

 

Julie Masternak took the loss for Homer Trojans Varsity. The hurler went four innings, allowing 11 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits, striking out two and walking six.

 

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets accumulated 13 hits in the game. Swihart, Biela, and King each drove in two runs for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets. DuBois and Amanda Ley each collected multiple hits for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets. Ryley Manning paced Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Smith stole two bases.

 

Miller provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Homer Trojans Varsity with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-1 on the day. Brooklen Minix set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Homer Trojans Varsity with two hits in three at bats. Minix stole four bases. Homer Trojans Varsity ran wild on the base paths, piling up five stolen bases for the game.

 

Next up for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets is a game against Tecumseh Varsity Indians on Saturday.
