Braylon Sayles hit four home runs and drove in seven as the Hanover-Horton Comet Baseball Team defeated Addison in game one of a twin bill 15-4 on Thursday. Sayles homered in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings consecutively to tie the MHSAA record for most home runs in a single game.
Sayles' two-run shot in the first got the Comets on the board, then Austin Leonard singled home the third run in the second inning.
The Comets added two more runs in the third inning with a Sayles solo homer and a Cameron Sherwood double, which drove in the fifth run of the game.
Hanover-Horton added to their lead in the fourth inning when Sayles hit his third home run of the game and Sherwood followed that up with a home run of his own.
The Comets then scored six more runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning. Aidan Zeffery singled which scored a run, Lukas NaDell doubled in two runs, Jack Wooster singled in the fourth run of the inning, and finally Sayles hit his fourth home run of the game, a two run shot, driving in the final two runs of the inning.
Sayles also was the starting pitcher for the Comets in the contest throwing for five innings, giving up five hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out three and walking two.
The Comets accumulated 16 hits in the game Brady Pond, Luke Soper, NaDell, Sherwood and Sayles each had multiple hits in the game. NaDell stole three of the Comets five bases in the game.
Game two saw the bottom of the lineup help the Comets beat the Panthers 13-3. Brady Pond, Aidan Zeffery and Austin Leonard combined for six of the team's 12 hits in the game. They also scored four runs and drove in five.
The Comets got on the board in the first inning when Luke Soper drew a walk, scoring a run, Cameron Sherwood singled, scoring a run, Pond singled, scoring two runs and Lukas NaDell singled, scoring one run while scoring himself on a steal of home.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Comets added to their lead on a triple by Braylon Sayles and a single by Channing Hull--each scoring a run.
Four more Comets crossed home plate in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 13-0. Sayles hit a solo home run--his fifth of the day--Zeffery and Leonard each singled, driving in three more.
NaDell started on the mound for the Comets, surrendering four hits and three runs over four and one-third innings striking out eight and walking six. Hull appeared in relief to end the game.
The Comets tallied 12 hits in the game with Sayles, Sherwood, Pond, Zeffery and Leonard collecting two hits a piece. Sayles, Pond and Leonard had two RBIs each, while NaDell stole two bases.
