Powerful Pitching Duo Lead Varsity Baseball to a Sweep of Michigan Center

Luke Soper struck out 15 batters in game one of a twin-bill as the southpaw led Hanover-Horton past Michigan Center last night by a score of 6-1. Soper gave up three hits and one run over seven innings while walking four.

A single by Cameron Sherwood put Hanover-Horton on the board in the bottom of the first.

The Comets added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Lukas NaDell tripled to center field and Jack Wooster singled to center field, each scoring one run. A hit by pitch extended the Comet lead to 5-0 in the third inning.

Hanover-Horton accumulated 10 hits in the game. Sherwood drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Comets with two RBIs. The infielder went 3 for 3 on the game.  Wooster and Austin Leonard each collected multiple hits for the victors.

Game two saw right-hander Braylon Sayles strike out 10 batters leading Hanover-Horton to a 15-2 victory over the Cardinals. Sayles gave up two hits and two runs over six inning while walking three.

Cameron Sherwood continued his hot hitting collecting three hits in four at bats in the win. He singled in the fifth and had two hits in the sixth--a single and a double.

The Comets flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring eight runs on four hits to take the lead 8-1. The biggest blow of the inning was a single by Lukas NaDell that drove in three.

Hanover-Horton proceeded to score seven more runs on four hits in the sixth inning. Brady Pond drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run, NaDell grounded out, scoring one run, Jack Wooster was hit by a pitch, scoring one run, and Sherwood singled, scoring two runs.

The Comets collected 10 hits in the contest. Sherwood and Wooster each smacked three hits a piece, while Channing Hull had two hits. Sayles led the team with four walks in the game. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 11 walks for the game. The Comets also stole six bases on the day and didn't commit a single error in the field.

Hanover-Horton plays again on Thursday against the Aggies of Sand Creek.
