The Hanover-Horton Comet Varsity Baseball team defeated Jonesville in the first game of a doubleheader by a score of 2-0. Luke Soper started the game for the Comets and recorded all 21 outs.
Soper struck out 13 batters on the day. The starter allowed no runs on four hits and didn't walk a single batter.
A solo home run to left field by Soper put the Comets on the board in the bottom of the second inning.
Soper led Hanover-Horton with one run batted in while going 2-2 in the game. The Comets were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Brady Pond had the most defensive chances with 12.
In game two, Luke Soper collected three hits in four at bats, as Hanover-Horton defeated Jonesville 6-2. Soper had a single in the first inning, hit his second home run of the day to left field in the third inning and had a second single in the fifth inning.
The Comets opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Brady Pond drove in one of those two runs.
Three more Hanover-Horton runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the Comet lead to 6-0. Soper homered to left field scoring two runs, and Nathan Denig grounded out scoring a run.
Braylon Sayles earned the win for the Comets giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking three.
Hanover-Horton tallied nine hits in the game, and were also sure-handed in the field--not committing an error in the contest. Jack Wooster had the most chances in the game with five.
Next up for the Comets is a big Cascades Conference tilt at Grass Lake on Friday.
