The Comet’s Varsity football team put another tally in the win column Friday night with a hard-fought 21-20 victory over the Michigan Center Cardinals.

The game was won in the trenches with the Comets racking up 341 yards rushing, lead by the offensive line dominating at the line of scrimmage all night. Lukas Nadell scored two touchdowns, Austyn Hocter added the third, and Layne Saari was a perfect 3 for 3 on extra points as the 21 points was all the Comets would need to win after another stout defensive performance.

Adam Ley lead all tacklers with 6.5, and Gavin Berkeypile added 2.5 tackles for loss that were key to keeping the Cardinals from extending drives. Weston Dick, Braden Cogan, Wyatt Ashworth, Bryant Hamisfar, and Reed Matthews anchored the defense up front and never allowed the Center offense to get in a good rhythm.

The Comets moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2014 and will host their first home game of the season, this Friday, as the 2-0 Grass Lake Warriors come to town.
