The Varsity football team moved to 3 and 0 Friday night with a decisive 49 to 21 victory over previously undefeated Grass Lake.

The ground game and a strong defense helped the Comets jump out to a 14-0 first quarter lead, but they would quickly see Grass Lake counter back with two deep passes for touchdowns. Both Austyn Hocter and Lukas Nadell scored their second touchdowns each in the second quarter to take a 28 to 14 halftime lead, and it would be all Comets from then on out. 

The defense was again lead by a stellar  performance from Adam Ley at middle linebacker, and they allowed less than 50 yards rushing all night as a team. The defensive line of Braden Cogan, Weston Dick, Bryant Hamisfar, and Reed Matthews pressured the Warriors backfield all night and never allowed their quarterback to be comfortable in the pocket. Jack Wooster caused a late fumble defensively that would seal the game for the Comets.

Luke Soper was a perfect 3 for 3 on the night with a 65-yard touchdown strike to Gavin Berkeypile, and added a rushing touchdown as well. 

The team will look to keep the momentum rolling this Friday, as they take on the Comets of Jonesville on the road at 7pm in their first Cascades Conference West matchup of the season.
