COLUMBIA CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL: 19
The Varsity football team moved to 8-0 on Friday evening after a 28 to 19 victory over visiting Columbia Central. The win secured the Cascades Conference West Division title for the Comets and locked down their spot in the crossover conference championship game.
Austyn Hocter lit up the scoreboard and the crowd early in the 1st quarter with a 92-yard rushing touchdown on the offense’s first possession of the game. Luke Soper capped off the second drive with a 3-yard rushing touchdown to give the Comets a 14 to 0 advantage, but would see Columbia bounce back with a quick rushing touchdown of their own.
The Comets carried a 21 to 13 lead into halftime thanks to a Lukas Nadell rushing touchdown, and eventually the Soper to Hocter passing connection would strike paydirt for the second straight game, to extend the lead to 28 to 13 and give the Comets enough of a margin to hold onto the victory.
Luke Soper lead all tacklers with ten and created another crucial interception early in the game. Adam Ley added nine stops, a tackle for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble, while Gavin Berkeypile made eight tackles and had two pass breakups.
