Varsity football suffered its first defeat in Saturday’s Cascades Conference Championship game. The Comets played hard but could not overcome a versatile Leslie offense and swarming defense. 

Jaxon Johnson had a key second quarter interception to stop a rolling Leslie offense, but the Blackhawks still took a 14-7 lead into half.

Leslie scored three second half touchdowns through the air, striking quick and capturing momentum before a Luke Soper quarterback sneak gave the Comets the final score of the day. 

Six different players carried the ball in Saturday’s contest. AJ Fielder lead all rushers with 84 yards, and Austyn Hocter added the other rushing touchdown for the Comets. 

Adam Ley, again, lead the defense in tackles, while Jack Wooster, Gavin Berkeypile, and Brody Burt all added a tackle for loss to help the defensive effort. 

A season of hard work paid off as the Comets captured a #2–seed in the district round of the MHSAA football playoffs, and will HOST an 8-1 Union City team Friday night. Kickoff is 7pm in The Crater—please continue to fill the stands and give your Comets the home field advantage!
