The historic Comet’s Varsity football season came to end Friday night in the first round of the MHSAA playoffs. The Comets finish the season with 8 wins and 2 losses following the defeat to Union City.

Kolin Griffiths scored on a 67-yard rushing touchdown on the second offensive snap of the night, but the Comets were unable to sustain offense throughout the game. After back-to-back-to-back touchdowns from Union City’s offensive attack, Luke Soper answered with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Austyn Hocter just before halftime to make it 13 to 28.

The Chargers came out attacking through the air and added two second half passing touchdowns to seal the game and put an end to the Comets run.

Reed Matthews had a hand in 9 tackles and added a forced fumble and fumble recovery to spark the Comets defense. Gavin Berkeypile also filled out the stat sheet with 9 total tackles, two for a loss, a sack, and a forced fumble.

Many Comets, and the team as a whole, set numerous season, game, and individual records throughout this year. The eight wins ties the most in a single season in school history and sets a mark for upcoming teams to strive for.

The season will conclude with the awards banquet Wednesday, November 13th at 7pm at which time ALL players will be recognized for their efforts, records, and awards earned throughout the year and their career.

Thank you and Go Comets!
