The Comet Cross Country team put their spikes on and "shook off the rust" at the Meckley's "Rust Shaker" Invite on Thursday.

The boys team kicked off the meet with excitement and determination. The Comets in the Freshman/Sophomore race were lead by Cooper Flick (1st), Chad Tyson (4th) and Wyatt Hassenzahl (6th). In the Junior/Senior race, the boys were lead by Landen Boulis (1st), Blake Griffis (2nd) and Zach Hassenzahl (3rd). The team scores were determined by combining the lowest 5 runner places between the 2 races; lowest score wins. The Comets won the meet with a score of 11 points!

The girls team of 5 runners started their race with the same excitement that the boys showed. The girls ran combined but were scored separately (Fr/So,Jr/Sr) like the boys. They were lead by Maisey Toteff (2nd), Delainey Cottrell (5th), Kennedy Bugbee (7th), Holly Zantop (8th) and Reyna Collins (11th). The Lady Comets finished the meet in 3rd place with a score of 33 pts.

It was found that the course not only ran slow, but it also ran a little long and caused the times to be a little slower than what our Comets were expecting. That said, they ran a really great race, and the coaches are proud of the efforts that were displayed throughout the meet. We are excited about the season ahead and looking forward to our next meet at the Hillsdale Invite on August 28th!
